Chelsea’s Country Boudoir

Chelsea is an amazing photographer who makes it a point to be photographed regularly herself, so for this session, she really wanted to go above and beyond and do something outside of the norm.  She had seen an experimental portrait session I did a couple of years back in a handmade tulle skirt and she wanted something similar, but with a bit more softness and a little less edge.  Chelsea shoots quite a bit of boudoir herself, and she wanted the same soft, frilly, feminine experience for herself that she gives to her clients.  She commissioned me to make a similar skirt in light pink, and we drove out to her tiny little hometown outside of Weatherford, TX to shoot some gorgeous sunset images in her own backyard.

Major props to Meagan of Meg B Designs (website and Facebook) for the incredible job on Chelsea’s hair and makeup.  Chelsea is definitely a natural beauty but Meagan really brought up the glam factor for this one.  One of the best things about working with her is that she is so fun to be around, so fashionable, and so amazingly creative.  I know that every chance I get to work with her is going to be a killer collaboration because she has so many good ideas that go beyond just hair and makeup.  If you’re looking for styling services for your wedding, event, portrait session, or just for a fun night out, definitely give Meagan a call!

Here are some of my favorites from Chelsea’s session:

I just love the country feel to this set.  Most people wouldn’t associate hay bales or rusted out old trucks with sexy portraits, but it really just fits Chelsea’s personality.  She’s so fun and grounded and laid back, a true country girl, but she also has a little bit of a sexy city girl to her, as well.

These images are so special to me.  It’s not often that you get someone who really wants to do something unique and outside of the box, and I’m so grateful to Chelsea for giving me that opportunity.  She’s a wonderful muse, and these images will always be some of my very favorites!

Isn’t Chelsea’s red hair just absolutely to die for?  Meagan did such a great job making it voluminous, bouncy, and sexy.  They say redheads are feisty and confident, and that definitely fits Chelsea to a T!

These Boots are Made for Walking

I’m a Texan born and bred, which basically means I was issued a pair of cowboy boots at birth.  Even though I’m a city girl now, I have a love affair with boots that will never end.  Mrs. C is a true Texas lady herself, so including her boots in her boudoir portraits was a no-brainer.  I love how she paired them with a simple, sheer white blouse for a casual but sexy look.

My Favorite Prop

I work with a lot of props in my boudoir sessions – jerseys, cowboy hats, guitars, feather boas, pearls, basketballs, and a lot of neckties! – but I have to say, this was my all time favorite prop.  Mrs. K’s husband is a photographer, so she knew he would love it if she combined two of his favorite loves in one sexy photo.  I had such a blast finding ways to make a camera sexy, and the beautiful Mrs. K made it very easy!

A Simple Sheet

I love it when my clients come to me with crazy wardrobe full of expensive lingerie and unusual outfits, but when it comes down to it, I wouldn’t mind doing an entire session with one simple white sheet.  It’s effortless and classic, and it can be used to cover up as much – or as little – as you want.  Case in point, Mrs. F brought so many adorable outfits to her session, but it ended up being this simple shot of her rolling around in the bedsheets that became one of my favorites.
